Designing wedding Gowns.

April 10, 2012 § Leave a comment

We had a really enjoyable evening at David Frank in Lancaster on Tuesday,3rd of April, where we show cased some of our designs and ideas in a bridal evening and fashion show.

My Mum came up to me after the show and said…’beautiful!’ (as mums do!!) and then told me how lovely the burgandy dress would be in Ivory! She’s right of course, it would! Its so difficult to show every idea, in every colour and detail! There are so many ideas around, and each brides wants a different look, for her wedding day.

Being a designer is all about creating, for each different client, designing for there personality and making their wedding gown dreams come true! The brides who come to me want to make that individual statement, they want a gown which nobody else will have and which has their own personal ‘wow’ factor!

The gowns we show are just ideas, and show our workmanship and different colours and details. My brides all have their own ideas, which I turn into a reality for them and im proud to do so, and im proud to be part of their wedding day.

Interviewed by Holly Blackwell, the article discusses my early days, my career, my inspirations and how I design and create the bespoke couture bridal gowns. Of course, it also describes my own bridal gown, and the story of my engagement! You can the read the article below:

Jennifer reviewing measurements at the first Toile fitting

Measure:

At this appointment, Jennifer will take all body measurements and posture renditions. This information will be used to draft a working paper patterns, from which a calico toile will be made for the first Toile fitting.

Toile Fitting:

The first calico toile is a mock-up of the dress, and is used to ensure the most accurate fit, this ensures the final gown is as flattering as possible. Only once the toile, and paper patterns are perfected, can the fabric be cut, and construction of the gown commenced.

During a number of private fittings with Jennifer, brides can see their gown come to life.

Gown Fittings:

During a number of private fittings with Jennifer, brides can see their gown come to life. These fittings ensure the gown is created and fits to the highest possible standards. These fittings also give the bride an opportunity to make any changes or amendments to the gown. A final check fitting is arranged as close to the wedding date as possible.

During the fittings, Jennifer welcomes family and friends to experience the excitement of your bridal gown’s creation. Evening appointments can be arranged on request.

Lily – A handcrafted showcase gown by Jennifer Pritchard Couchman Bridal, Lancaster

The inspiration for this showcase dress comes from the classic 1950s movie stars, such as Audrey Hepburn. The design evolved from a number of hand drawn sketches, and maquette’s, before the gown was hand crafted in my studio at The Storey in Lancaster.

Neat seam lines are cut  into a contemporary and elegant silhouette – a sleek classic design. I introduced an exquisite  twist to the design by adding a lower ‘v’ back and an oversized bow detail. The gown is a mix of silk dutchess satin and silk crepe cut on the empire line and falling into a soft a-line with a small train. This dress can be recreated in many different fabrics and colours and other design details can be added if prefered.
